Auditions

The Music Program at Olivet College is a selective admissions program and students wishing to become a music major or minor must complete an audition for the music faculty. Below is a brief suggestion for what to prepare for auditions.  If you have any specific questions, please contact Dr. Ramona Kime at rkime@olivetcollege.edu or 269.749-7692.  An accompanist will be provided for you free of charge.

Scheduling Auditions:While the Music Program generally holds auditions twice a year, students may schedule an audition day and time to suit his/her individual schedule.  To schedule an audition, please contact Dr. Ramona Kime at rkime@olivetcollege.edu or 269-749-7692.

 Vocal Auditions:

Two selections are acceptable.  Please choose from the following:

  • an artsong in English
  • an aria or artsong in a foreign language (Italian, French, German, Spanish)
  • an aria from the Oratorio repertory
  • musical theatre majors, please prepare 2 contrasting pieces (ballad and up-tempo)
  • students may be asked to sightread

Instrumental Auditions:

We hear auditions for piano, all winds, brass, percussion, and guitar.  Performers should come prepared to play at least one full-length composition with piano accompaniment, when appropriate, and an etude.  Certain transcriptions are acceptable.  Students may be asked to play specific scales and/or sightread at their audition.  For more specific information or if you have questions, please contact Dr. Ramona Kime at rkime@olivetcollege.edu or 269-749-7692.
